RETIRED handyman Don Logan was the surprise recipient of Goytre AFC's clubman of the year award last weekend.
Chairman Paul Greenhalgh explained that Logan had come down to Plough Road and chopped down the huge pitchside trees, without asking for a penny. A friend of the club, his daughter follows Goytre across Wales.
Greenhalgh said: "He's come from outside and done a lot of work for us cutting the trees down.
"He's a friend of the cub and lives in Penperlleni village. His daughter Sarah comes everywhere with us."
Craig Jolliffe was first team manager Ian Rosser's player of the year, and was the players' player of the year. Mitchell Powell was the squad's most improved man.
Stuart Price was the second XI players' player of the year, with Rhys Davies the most improved.
Greenhalgh said of another double award winner, Graham Mason: "He's been with the firsts and the seconds and scored 40 goals this year even though he had some trouble with his shoulder and he's been on a few holidays."
Mason had been the supporters' player of the year, and also the second team managers' player of the year as picked by acting bosses John Parkinson and Paul Hamer. The pair took over from Mike Pugh midseason and the club expects to make a more permanent appointment next week.
Greenhalgh said: "We had a great day Saturday at the clubhouse.
"Now we're trying to sort out a second team manager. We've had a number of enquires but we'll be waiting until the boys are back from tour next week and we'll discuss the way forward for the club.
"We'll get together then and have a meeting with the manager and the acting managers. Obviously we want to get something sorted sooner rather than later, as we've already agreed to Neath from the Welsh Premier League coming down here for a pre-season friendly."
