Change of venue on the cards
THE proposed three-day jazz and folk music festival in the heart of the Wye Valley in August could be moved to a more suitable location following opposition from local nuns and residents.
The organisers of the Seventh Sun Festival had intended staging the event at a farm in the Lydart, which was expected to attract 15,000 people over the weekend of August 8 to 11, but this clashed with a quiet weekend at the neighbouring convent.
But following the cancellation of the Patriot Games festival on the Monmouthshire Showground site has allowed the controversial event to move to this location instead.
But while the new venue is still subject to the approval of the licensing authority, Kay Spencer the secretary of Monmouthshire Show, the owners of the showground site, said that council officers had already been trying to persuade the event organisers to move to showground site as it was a better venue.
The licensing authority are due to consider the request on June 9.
